China Tourist Guides Attractions  The Great Wall of China
One of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Wall of China is about 2000 years old, approximately 6700 kilometers long and winds its way across the breadth of China. One of Chinas most enduring symbols, the great wall signifies the tenacity and will of the Chinese people. Built by armies of soldiers, locals and prisoners, and constructed through the centuries, the Great Wall is now part of Chinese mythology and symbolism. Folk songs and operas tell of the legend of Men Jiangnu, who wept so bitterly at the death of her husband during the construction of the Wall, that portions of the wall itself collapsed hearing her sorrow. Yangtse River
The Yangtse River winds its way from Chongquig in the west to Wuhan in the east on its 4000 mile route through some stunning natural scenery. A popular tourist attraction is the 'Three Gorges.' Zouzhuang
Zouzhuang, a historic water township in Kunshan City dates from 770 BC, and was extensively expanded during the Ming and Qing Dynasty periods. Zhoushuang is the Venice of the East, a city set amidst lakes and rivers and over 14 stone bridges. The Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses
In the Shaanzxi province, the Terra Cotta Warriors are the archaeological find of the 20th century. It is the mausoleum of the .first Chinese emperor. Qin Shi Huang, who was buried with a wealth of artefacts and treasures. The site now was turned into a museum and is a must on any serious tourist's itinerary. Featuring life size terra cotta figures of ancient warriors and other artefacts that have been authenticated as belonging to the Qin dynasty are on breathtaking display. The Silk Route
Taking the route, which travellers and traders have been traversing since 200 AD, tourists can trace the so-called Silk route, which linked two great civilizations, the Roman Empire in the west and the Chinese empire in the east. Mogao Caves
Enduring images of Buddhist art, culture, sutras, murals and sculptures are to be found at the Mogao Caves, traditionally known as the caves of a Thousand Buddhas. Set in a cliff wall deep in the Gobi desert, over thousands of caves were constructed from the 4th to the 14th century, and contain a treasure trove of Buddhist medieval history. The caves, of which about 492 grottos remain, contain about 45000 square meters of murals and almost 2400 painted statues, and its remains provide a rich encyclopaedia of research material for historians, art researchers and other scholars in diverse fields of study. The Forbidden City
Lying in the heart of Beijing, the Forbidden City was the imperial court of fourteen emperors of the Ming dynasty and ten emperors of the Qing dynasty. One of the world's largest palace complexes, consisting of 9,999 buildings, the Forbidden City, or Gu Gong, as it is called in Chinese is listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Li River cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo takes the tourist on a breathtakingly beautiful journey through the Chinese countryside.
