India Tourist Guides Environment  The beautiful land of India is surrounded by high mountains, a chilly misty air and with immense greenery all around stretching for an area of some 3300000 sq. km, is enveloped by the great Himalayan range on the north and the frothy Indian Ocean in the south. Blessed with summer, winter, autumn and spring, India is replete with rich flora and fauna. Wildlife includes more than 500 species of mammals like wild ass, the black buck, the one-horned rhinoceros, Indian elephant, Asian tigers, Indian Macacs and the Royal Bengal Tigers. There are variegated animals, like Indian gazelles (chinkaras), four-horned antelopes, the tiny mouse-deer, blue bulls, swamp deer, large barking deer (muntjacs), striped hyenas, Indian bisons (gaurs) and many other species which are only found in India. Flamboyant birds like the peacock, ibises cranes, pelicans and the killer reptiles like pythons, king cobras and monitor lizards also throng the forest areas. The vegetation too, is rich with at least 15000 species of plants, flowers and fruits. The important wildlife sanctuaries include point Calimere (known for flamingoes), Kaziranga (rhinos), Corbett and Ranthambhore (for tigers and leopards), Periyar (for elephants), the Sunderbans (Royal Bengal Tiger) and Rann of Kutch (wild asses). The lush greenery, the tangy wildness the pristine solitude and the bereavement beautiful beaches dominate the environment of India.
