Laos Tourist Guides — Activities

Pha That Luong Laos

A visit to Laos will remain incomplete without experiencing the various activities that Laos has to provide.

Cruising through the waters of the Mekong River is delightful. Although Laos is a landlocked region, yet the waters of the Mekong River gifts Laos some of the greenest plains of the world. The Mekong River popularly known as .Mae Nam Kkhong. in Laos is often referred in China as the .Lancang Jiang. or the turbulent river. The river meanders through the heart of Laos breaks into surf at the shores and people taking a walk round especially on the Mekong waterfront Esplanade experience an exquisite wonder at its largeness and liveliness. Mekong is the tenth longest river in the world. Cruising through the blue pristine waters and watching the ferns grown to a great height and occasionally the fish nets glittering with the sunshine in the water or the fishermen sitting quietly for the right moment to catch the fish .all these provides a sight unparalleled otherwise. Since Laos lacks the modern innumerable network of roads and railways so traveling by the Mekong River is necessary and frequent. If you want to reach the interiors of places like Vientiane and Luang Prabang and places between them, you can go only by cruising through Mekong River.

Another important activity in Laos comprises trekking. The well-maintained yet hilly roads of Laos have a lot to offer to the indefatigable trekker. A trip through the hill tribe villages, their peculiar livelihood, their everyday routine is greatly attractive to all. Sometimes due to inaccessibility, the roads and terrains are uneven and rough. At these places you should be properly equipped to avoid any inconveniences.

The different trek routes are as follows:

Luang Prabang: Here you will witness the ancient but exquisitely beautiful Buddhist temples, which nurture a unique ambience. While trekking through a beautiful area of Vang Vieng you will come across many ethnic tribal people and their divinely inspired life.

Luang Namtha: This trekking mainly takes you through the forest areas that lie on the northern tip of Laos. Biodiversity Conservation Area is excellent with its portrayal of ethnic minorities and the interesting history of their livelihood.

Northern Laos: Once you are through this region you will witness the magnificent ruins of French architecture and exquisite carved temples.

Laos Hilltribe: This trek gives you more of a tranquil portrayal of everyday life in and around Laos.s hilly areas. The diversity of natural splendor, the charming people and their way of living, all are just an excellent dreamlike experience.

The last activity common to all other places include shopping. Laos is famous for hand -woven silk and cotton fabrics, each having a traditional finishing touch to it. Also textiles and baskets are attractive .One can also go for beautiful postage stamps shopping if you have interest in it. Shawls, bags, exquisite wall hangings, hill tribe yet wonderful embroidery and quilts can also be found in the Laos shopping centers.
