Laos Tourist Guides — Attractions

Plains of jars Phongsavan

The attractions of Laos are sufficient to provide a diversity of both natural and man-made splendors. Places of ancient ruins and age-old historical sites, heritage buildings and cozy cottages, charming towns with wonderful tourists facilities and friendly people make Laos a simply curious place to visit.

Luang Prabang looks as if it.s out of its deepest slumber and working to begin anew. Plagued by constant war and turmoil it witnesses a very little of modern materialistic 20th century life. Its ancient historical temples, the ruins, the lovely landscape of lush green meadows and foamy Mekong River surrounding it, Luang Prabang remains an exclusive place with its Royal Palace museum, Wat Xieng Thong, Pak Ou Caves and Kuang Si waterfalls and other caves all sometimes displaying exclusive Buddha images.

Vientiane the capital city of Laos is wonderful with its lively antique markets and exquisite Wats. Other than Pha that Luang (great stupa) which symbolizes Buddhism and Laos sovereignty, the other interesting sites include a former temple now a museum Wat Pha Khew, an ancient ruined yet beautiful temple Wat Si Saket and also the Wat Xieng Khuan where a cluster of Hindu sculpture and Buddhist images are magnificently portrayed.

The National Museum among other magnificent statues, include a Buddha antique image, which is named Pra Bang. The statue, which is 80% gold carvings, was formerly situated in Ceylon, then brought back to Luang Prabang and now presently situated in Vientiane. The statue moved from place to place because of its being the most important and holy object of Laotian Buddhism.

Phonsauan in Xieng Khuang province have several mysterious plains of jars whose origin hitherto remains unknown. These jars are made of solid stones.

The Stupa in Wat visoun portrays the medieval ambience of the monasteries of the middle ages. The Wats like Wat Xieng Thong, Wat That Luang are really interesting sites as they are adorned with mosaics and carvings. The Wat houses are particularly notable for its innumerable yet magnificently preserved religious and art treasures. A special attraction lies in a golden stupa, which includes the ashes of a king.

The Bolaven Plateau, a stunning lush fertile land grows important beverages like coffee, cardamom and fruits. The exquisite crystal clear waterfalls like Tat Lo, the cluster of friendly tribal people like Katu, Ta-oy and Alak groups living in thatched roofs make the Bolaven plateau a manifestation of spectacular ceremonies.

The Ho Chi Minh trail is a disappointment to the entire height of attractive places of Laos. Its dirty and graveled path was usually used during the war strife and now the task of clearing the war junks are undertaken in a massive scale.

But with all its beauty and disadvantages Laos still remains the paradise and provides a happy feeling to every tourist.
