Myanmar Tourist Guides — Activities

Rangoon

There are many interesting activities one can do after visiting Myanmar. Some of them are:

Trekking: The popular trekking routes are:

i. Shan state adventure trek . This four day trek covers Kakku Pagoda Complex with over 500 stupas, Inle Lake with its leg-rowing boatmen, Nga Phe Kyaung monastery with its famous jumping cats, etc.

ii. Mt. Victoria trekking . This trek is through the jungle covering wild pine forests when you finally reach the 10000 ft high peak.

ii. Golden triangle adventure trek . From Rangoon to Kengtung, one can see the ancient temples and the hill tribes.

Diving: It is another interesting thing you can do in Myanmar. You can see many interesting underwater things while doing scuba diving in Burma. They are reefs, drop-offs, seamounts, caves and tunnels cutting right through an Island, which exits on both sides. You will also come across sharks, manta rays, large swarms of eagle rays, and occasionally, whale sharks. The unforgettable breathtaking scenery and virgin rainforests over nine hundred islands scattered over an area of some 12000 square miles is heaven for nature lovers. The isolation of this archipelago and inaccessibility of this place has resulted in the interior of many of the islands of never been surveyed at all. The abundance of wildlife and vegetation is in abundance on these rain forest clad islands. The beaches are clean and stretch for miles.

Shopping: There are many things you can buy from Myanmar, mainly handicraft goods. But the goods sold at the big hotel shops, large air-conditioned shops are a bit expensive. Another amusing practice is to barter with merchants who would be overjoyed to trade their goods for some of your goodies such as designer watches, jeans, T-shirts and so on.

Dining: You can dine in many local restaurants, where the popular food that is available is lethok son (spicy vegetarian rice salad) and oh-no khuak swe (rice noodles with chicken). Indian and Chinese food is popular while dinning out. The cooking is parallel to that of other Southeast Asian countries and consists mostly of curries and rice seasoned with ngapi (dried shrimp paste). The strange spicy tea, which is widely available on every street corner, will create a bright red colored tongue and the locally produced soft drinks are terrible. Highly intoxicating local liquor Shwe le maw is distilled in the mountains and is available in plenty, it is not advised for travelers.
