Nepal Tourist Guides Culture The various invasions in Nepal have contributed to its diverse cultures accommodating manifold food habits and several forms of art and architectural delights. In fact Nepal.s strategic placement amidst India, Tibet and Bhutan has helped in creating a third space of culture among all these countries. This has produced quite a few numbers ethnic and linguistic patterns throughout the country. Apart from that several dialects like Rai, Limbu and Newari are also in use. Though the majority of the populations are now Hindu, Buddhism is still practiced by many. Thus there are numerous temples and monasteries to be found in the country. Various incarnations of gods and goddesses are worshipped in the country, but the most interesting one is the avatar of the Kumari Devi. The Kumari Devi is a young girl living in a mansion called the Kumari Ghar, which is beside the Durbar Square. The worship of the Kumari or the girl child is considered a source of cosmic power and is practiced in quite a few ancient religions around the world. In fact the worship of the Kumari Devi is a practice both among the Hindus as well as the Buddhists in the country bringing about a religious harmony in the society. The process of choosing the Kumari Devi is quite a tedious task since she should have 32 aspects of perfection within her including the sound of her voice and the color of her eyes, and her horoscope details. Artistic revival gradually took place in the field of Creative Arts and Architecture after slackening of the rigid censorship rules in 1951. Especially in literature and poetry, it was most significant. The national spirit was upheld by the major poets of that age like King Mahendra.s lyrics, which were translated into English. In architecture the Nepali pagoda common to both the Hindus and the Buddhists is a visual delight. Though the ancient handicraft of wood and metal is still prevalent, the cities of Katmandu, Pathan and Bhagadaon have developed their own brand of architecture. The houses are built in Sal wood and the windows and doors are richly carved. The kitchen is at the top of the house so that the pungent odor does not affect the entire household. However the instability in the present political life have affected the creative growth of the citizens. In the case of food too, we find the influence of the neighboring countries with the Indian Lassis, the Thai chocolates and the Chinese marsh mellows.
