New Zealand Tourist Guides Activities Fishing
New Zealand is an angler's idea of heaven - the rivers, lakes and coastlines have a rich supply of marine life. Various species of fish abound - rainbow, brown and brook trout, marlin, kahawai, shark, kingfish, tuna, snapper and salmon being the most plentiful. Kayaking and Rafting
Rafting in New Zealand is not for the amateur tourist looking out for a day of adventure - the terrain offers a range of challenging fast flowing rapids with steep falls. White water rafting is a very organized activity in New Zealand, with tour operators covering about fifty rivers, with scales of difficulty from Grade 1 to Grade 5. Skiing
Although not as well known as the famed ski slopes of Colorado or the hunting grounds of holiday skiers in Europe - New Zealand offers skiing facilities that are amongst one of the best in the world. Skiing terrain ranges from gently undulating hills for the amateur to heart-in-the-mouth almost vertical drops for the hard-core professional. Cross-country skiing, heli-skiing, snow boarding are also popular in this sports mad country. Biking
Biking is a great way to discover New Zealand - the tranquil yet stunning landscape can be enjoyed at close quarters by biking down well-charted routes. Bungee Jumping
The ultimate in adventure - bungee jumping off Skippers Canyon Bridge at Queenstown draws many tourists, including a hair-raising jump from a helicopter at 300 m. Trekking
Trekking, or rather, tramping as the locals call it, is one of the best ways to see the country. New Zealanders are lovers of nature - and there is a huge network of trekking trails and hikes all through the country, ranging from trails through gentle valleys to more rugged mountain climbs. Diving
New Zealand offers some of the most unique diving sites in the world in fact the Poor Knights Islands Marine Reserve has been marked by the renowned oceanographer Jacques Cousteau to be one of the top ten diving sites in the world. The White Island site also offers an awesome experience to the underwater adventurer - visibility is often over 40m, and an array of bronze whaler and blue sharks, mako sharks, marlin, tuna, kingfish, crayfish, and bass are plentiful. The volcanic terrain makes dives interesting at the Club Rocks off Crater bay, with caves and holes which are home to schools of packhorse crayfish and groper. Volkner Rocks and Liason's Reef are other challenging dives.
