Philippines Tourist Guides Activities Shopping
Shopping in some of the local markets can be a multi-sensory experience - vibrant colors, hot perspiring crowds, aromas from local cuisine wafting though the air, and the sounds of relentless bargaining in the stalls. Amongst the myriad items on sale are fabrics, clothes, rugs, embroidered linen, cutlery, cigars, woodcarvings and cane furniture. Most of the cities also have Department Stores and Malls. Volcano Trekking and Hiking
The highlands of the Philippines offer the avid climber excellent trekking and hiking opportunities, besides the benefit of a cooler and more pleasant climate. Weekend treks from Manila include Mt. Natib, which has a spectacular view of Manila Bay, Mt Arayat, Mt. Pinatubo, and Mt Sembrano. To the south are various peaks. Mt Pico de Loro is notable for its views of the surrounding areas. Mt. Taal, also south of Manila, is considered to be one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. More seasoned trekkers are drawn to the following peaks - Mt Kanalaon on Negros Island, Mt. Mayon on Luzon Island, and Mt. Apo, which is the Philippine Islands' highest peak. It is not advisable to climb any of these without a reliable guide. Dining
Dining out in the Philippines may not be a five-star experience, but there are a variety of local specialties must be tasted. Pork lovers can try lechon, which is a suckling barbequed pig basted with pork-liver sauce and Adobo, a pork and chicken stew. It is advisable to avoid street vendors and remain with better-looking restaurants and hotels. There are also countless western style fast food restaurants. Scuba Diving
The Philippine islands offer the most outstanding underwater experiences in South East Asia. One can get the entire range of scuba diving facilities - from easy to difficult, from budget to five-star. Scuba diving is a well-regulated activity with professionally run dive centers, and international certification agencies are all represented here. Some of the more outstanding spots are in the Batangas province, Anilao, Maricaban Island, and Malajimbomanoc Island. Apart from natural beauty such as multi-hued coral reefs, a rich marine wild life, and immense walls and drop offs, the seas are an explorer's delight - underwater wrecks, cemeteries and shrines are not uncommon.
