Taiwan Tourist Guides — Environment

Taidong sea beach

If you are a forest- lover, Taiwan might be the best place to visit. More than half of the total land (about 58.53%) area in Taiwan is covered with trees, conifer forests, hardwood forests or bamboos. So, if you haven.t visited Taiwan already, expect an emerald looking isle afar, inviting you. The climate of Taiwan is sub-tropical with lots of plant as well as animal life (the Formosan black bear, the Formosan Sika deer and the Formosan landlocked salmon are some common species used to be found here).

In the lower region Acacia trees are literally omnipresent. As you move towards central and northern Taiwan, naturally grown bamboo groves become all pervading. In the southern zone, bamboos are cultivated, especially in the damp quarters. The Taiwan plant life bear a resemblance to their kind found in the Mainland China (Mountain vegetation is allied to that of western China, and lofty alpine vegetation to that of the Himalayan province). The earth quality is wide-ranging in Taiwan. The moorland soils of rocky areas are by and large litho sols, which are as a rule slight and arid. In the north it is principally acid alluvial and latosols of diluvia and in the south, the arable soil is alluvial of neutral to feeble alkalinity and Plano sol-like alluvial. Agriculture is carried out mainly in the southern part of Taiwan.

The weather has a mixed bag of assortments. In the summer it.s humid and hot but nippy in the hills. There are showers too, giving momentary relief. The winters are freezing out in the mountains. No, even in winters there.s no escape from drizzles (chiefly in the north east) and it might snow anytime. In the southwest, it is comparatively tepid. So, in Taiwan it depends .where. you are rather than .when. you are and don.t forget to pack your raincoat. It will, unquestionably, come handy all the way through the year!
