Rice, mutton, fish, eggplant and onion are common ingredients and eggplant is the number one vegetable. The deserts are generally a mouth-watering combination of fruits, nuts and pastries. Tea is the national drink whereas Raki, an aniseed flavored grape brandy, is the local favorite. The Turkish film industry made an early start but expanded only after the World War II. Social and political issues were highlighted during 1960s and 70s. Naturalism and dry humor characterize the Turkish films. The well-known directors are Yilmaz GOne important aspect of Turkish culture is the extreme politeness of the Turkish people, which makes them one of the best hosts in the world. It.s mention worthy that at times, women visitors complain of verbal and physical abuse in Turkey. However, a little conscious attitude on one.s own part can eliminate the possibility of any such unwanted harassment.
